Does Cyclops have voice alert for red-light and speed camera because I only hear is the ding sound or dingding sound with icon on the map.

If not that's okay but please let me know if there is voice alert. Someone should confirm this before you try (or you can do it yourself with a POI file, wav audio and even an icon with POI Loader if you want), but assuming your 200W can play wav audio files, you can add custom voice audio and an icon to the Speed and Redlight camera files obtainable here at The Factory. How about POI factory? Did we have icons and voice alerts? You can put voice and icons with poi factorys RLC's. I also had the trial Cyclops loaded on my 2460 when I bought it new.

I since then have deleted it and use the POI Factory's RedLight & Speed cameras exclusively. There are pro's and cons for both. I'm assuming the Cyclops file is a simple download with the Cyclops.poi file into the POI folder. You must use POI loader and create a new file when using the POI files from this site. Pro's for POI Factory files are they are more accurate, you can assign sounds and icons, and you can view the changes made every week. I don't create a new file every week unless I see any changes made for areas I plan to frequent.

Here you can see the history: I use Jill in both my Nuvi's as the voice. I have created my own alert sound in a males voice for the Redlight Camera. It says 'Caution, Now Approaching a Red Light Camera'.

As soon as I hear the male voice I know what's coming ahead. Not that I break the traffic laws, but many innocent people have been ticketed unjustly. You can create your own wave sounds here for the alerts. If you decide to use the POI Files from this site, backup the Cyclops file to your PC if you like then delete it from the Nuvi. Leaving it there may cause double announcements since both files will have the same location. Syc20099 wrote: Then POI Factory's are much better. I can customize icons, replace sounds, and they update every week but Cyclops, they charge about $24.99 to subscribe and they have less functionality like can't customize icons, and alert sounds are just a ding or either dingding.

In prices, POI factory's are much cheaper more accurate. Hope we could have unlimited subscription will be excellent.once you have your windmill, you have free access to The Factory's redlight and speed files. You've been posting for about two weeks so you should have a windmill soon. I just registered for this site and wanted to thank you for the comment about the wave sounds alerts. I bought a new garmin nuvi and was thinking about getting cyclops since this is the one that I found at garmin website as safety camera program but I was doing the research on google and found this website.

I was looking for reviews between cyclops and factory safety camera and found your comment and because of that I decided to buy this one. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain so clear about the difeerences. And it seems that the Garmin Cyclops does NOT work on it's newer units.

Maybe this is a glitch, or maybe Cyclops is on the way out at Garmin. My wife continues to use both the Cyclops and POI Factory files since she travels to more of the 'hot' spots than I do around northern Ohio and Columbus.

She has yet to find a missing alert in either file. She says POI Factory and Cyclops have slightly different settings for the alert but nothing annoying. Her POI Factory Redlight is set for 700 ft and Speed uses the default value. I will soon delete the Cyclops files from her unit as well. But it was an interesting analysis.

Just deciding if I want to wait the prerequisite weeks or to just buy it now via donation.and in the meantime, you have a lot you can do: 1) Make a full computer backup of the files on your new nuvi with the nuvi in MS mode rather than MTP mode. You can see your.system folder, right? 1a) If you haven't done a computer backup yet, do it now. Don't skip ahead. 2) Add more TTS3 voices.

Have you added Karen yet? You want her voice. Note also that just a week ago, most of the TTS3 voices were updated to v2.00. 3) Practice loading Custom POIs to your nuvi, use POI Loader in Manual Mode to set alerts, add Custom icons and Custom audio to your Custom POIs.

It's possible that this will save you oodles of problems when you do install the redlight and speed camera files, especially with Custom Audio. A great POI file to install with Custom icons and audio is the RestAreasCombined. 4) Go through the exercises in The Factory's Learn Tab, Tutorials, and Faq tab, especially the Garmin faqs. 5) Delete unneeded files in your nuvi-if you don't speak Norwegian, do you really need Norwegian voice directions? You haven't skipped ahead, have you? See 1) and 1a). 6) Be amazed at the new School Zones feature by driving through some during school hours, after hours, and on weekends-note the differences.

Ditto for the auto Day/Night mode in many tunnels. 7) See if you can find your vehicle at: and install it to your nuvi.

8) Have you downloaded your Owners Manual from Garmin? 9) Do a simulated route to some location. Determine how to do a SET LOC. Of course, if any of the above makes no sense, then you haven't fully explored the Learn and Faq tabs and the Tutorials.

I'm assuming that you've already updated to the latest map, 2015.10, and have installed and saved to your computer: POI Loader, WebUpdater, GarminMapUpdater, the latest Garmin Communicator plug-in, have registered your nuvi and visited myGarmin and its various tabs. Extra credit: 1) Learn about the intricacies of TourGuides vs. Standard POIs. This will avoid embarrassing questions about why your Starbucks alerts aren't always alerting; 2) Realize why you don't need to know about the large JCV file. 3) Try to understand why Garmin Express is discussed as much as it is here at The Factory. Need more jobs before earning your windmill? Well this is where I am with my training 1) read the FAQ on how to see the.System folder 1a) did a backup by creating an.ISO file of the Garmin internal drive.

2) Added a couple more of the TTS voices such as Karen (Australian female voice) 3) Will get back to loading practice POIs in the next few days 4) In progress 5) Deleted a lot of voices I don't need or don't know 6) Will have to wait for another day. 7) Downloaded lots of new vehicles 8) Downloaded the manual 9) Done extra credit - will do. It's on my bucket list also I installed and i'm playing with Basecamp.ugh that i'll have to look at the tutorial links from the Basecamp tutorial section on the site Thanks for your guidance! By the way, if there was anything in the FAQs that was not clear - or took a while to understand - it would be a real help to others if you would point out places where you had problems to the author of the FAQ. @Craig - those instructions were great. I think I will put a 'Newbies' Tab in the Index and point to your post.

But my above list was directed more towards jmvamosy (who I figured just needed a slight poke in the ribs with a finger to start all this stuff) rather than the average newbie (who needs more of a hand-holding than a quick rib jab).

Also, a lot of the list was specific to the nuvi 3597. There's also the issue of order of importance. Other than figuring that you will agree with items 1 (and 1a), maybe the lists priorities should be rethought. I started with the important ones, but then with later edits, I added to the end of the list things that maybe should have had a higher priority. I have to say it was fun thinking of all the hoop I could make jmv. PS-I agree with your assessment of this newbie.
