The reason: You can't use the Active EQ (or ANY processor) in a tape Monitor loop with anything but 2-channel stereo material. As soon as you activate the loop you lose digital sources. Adding to YOUR particular problem is that the Denon doesn't have a volume-controlled pre-out to feed that amp.

If you want to deal with controlling the separate amp volume manually you COULD connect the Active EQ between DVR Out and the 901 amp IN but you would have a stereo mixdown instead of true front channel from the speakers. Best I can tell, the problem with my setup is that this model (avr-887) can't pass component video input out through HDMI. Can anyone confirm that? Prior to setting up the Wii, I'd only been using a single HDMI output from the denon to my tv/monitor. The only solution I've found is to add a component video output to the monitor - which is unfortunate.

I'd much rather have only the single HDMI out. Would love to hear if there is a way to set this up without having to add the additional component output. Here is what they said: With a stereo receiver, the equalizer is run through the tape monitor section in the back of the receiver.

The receiver's tape monitor output, left and right, runs to the amp input section of the equalizer, left and right. Then the amp output section of the equalizer, left and right, runs to the receiver's tape monitor input section. With a surround sound, home theater, type of receiver, the theory is the same, but the connection is through the preamp-out/ main amp-in section of the receiver. Not all receivers have this feature. Most, in fact, do not. Check the back of the receiver.

There would be a connection made by two U-shaped clips. The plugs would be pulled out. Then connect from the preamp-out to the equalizer's amp input section; and from the equalizer's amp output section to the main amp-in.

This effectively isolates the equalizer so that it is not affecting the other speakers in the system or the receiver's surround processing. Ok, I tried in the HTIB forum and no one knows anything about DiVinci systems.. I basically want something that will blow away my $50 surround sound system.

Contact me at and I'll forward the pdf. 1-30-2009 Posted on Jan 30, 2009. I understand, it's something I've misunderstood on my denon avr-790 as well when connected to a samsung 8000 series led tv.

The answer isn't in the receiver's settings (you can be on whatever source you want on the receiver end when toggling the menu). You need to toggle through the tv's sources to find the menu (usually found on hdmi 1).

I've spent towards an hour recently troubleshooting only to find that it was the tv's source that wasn't set properly and I was trying to change the receiver's settings instead of the tv's source. Hope that helps!
