JoWooD Productions has released a new update for Spellforce whic fixes some problems encountered with the Gold Edition of Spellforce and the latest patch v1.52 (players were asked for a cd-key although the Gold Edition doesn't require one). The patch is necessary only if you are trying to play the Gold Edition together with the latest patch (v1.52), but it works for all editions.
The update includes several maps (Coop43darkKathai, Coop43lightKathai, Questplace) for the second addon, Shadow of the Phoenix. If you try to load one of these without having the second addon installed, your system will crash.
All of those who want to play the Gold Edition with the latest patch 1.52, should use the new patch version 1.52a to solve the problem with the CD-Key. Update Patch for Version 1.5x (Full Patch (Please keep in mind, that the patch includes several maps (Coop43darkKathai, Coop43lightKathai, Questplace) for the second Add-On 'Shadow of the Phoenix'. If you try to load one of these without having the second AddOn installed, your system will crash. Hi In the MP game lobby you should see a version number of the other game. If its not the same as yours or if the game is already started you cant join. You cant take an avatar from the SP campaign for the free game mode. But you can make an avatar in free game mode and train him in the SP mode of the free game mode and then use it for MP games.
When you want to play over the internet you should deactivate your antivirus and firewall or forward the ports for SpellForce (they are in the manual). Greetings -kubi.
After installing the Gold Edition I tried running the game. I got an error message saying the CD could not be verified. I tried running the CD support tool but this didn't help either. I have updated to the latest patch but this didn't change anything. Is there anything else I can download to fix this? Been so many years since I played it and I wanted to play it again so yeah.
Hmm, you enquired about the same problem some time ago, in 2004 (and didn't respond to Match's answer to your query then, to say whether his suggestion of what the problem could be helped. Maybe it will again.
Meanwhile, you are trying to install 1.52a right? Have you attempted to start the patch and install the game from that? That said you seems to have been playing SF1 already, judging by your other posts, so how did you get it to work before? Can't you do the same thing again? PS I also notice that you didn't buy the game from a store but on eBay.
I presume it's the same copy you are talking about so can you be certain it is a legit copy? That could explain the problem. Otherwise it could just have been a duff cd someone sold you but you won't have a warranty since it's 2nd hand and it's too long ago to complain to/about the seller now.
The copy of the game I bought was brand new so that wasn't the issue. I guess I didn't see Match's thread back then. But I do now! I'll try what he suggests. Having said that, I think the copy I was talking about in 2004 was the first Spellforce game (Order of Dawn) and not the Gold Edition.
It's a similar issue, though. Apologies for my lack of reasoning at this stage:p I somehow managed to get it working in the end back then and played the first game as well as the two expansion packs. But I haven't played it since (late 2005, early 2006?) and I am now on a different computer so I don't have any of the previous save games etc stored. I know other people have had the same issues as me with this game, the whole verifying the CD thing and the problem with running the CD Support Tool. But like I said I'll try Match's suggestion and if that doesn't work I'll get back to you.
I've also emailed JoWood support about it and given them the two text files to do with MsInfo23 and DirectX. After a week of waiting I finally heard from them. This is what they said: 'Dear Customer, please uninstall update 1.52 and install the game without patches as this version is the latest. ' So this doesn't help me at all.
Does anyone have any other ideas? If I installed Spellforce: Order of Dawn first (it had a 'normal' CD key that you had to enter manually) and then attempted to install the Gold Edition on top of it, would that help? I left my copy of Spellforce: OD at home in Norway but I could always get my parents to send it to me. Well you could try installing it using 1.38, you've nothing to lose except having to uninstall it if that doesn't work but worth a shot. If not then do as I suggest and get back to them, a wait yes but if they missed the point that you have an actual problem and instead just harped on about the fact you tried to cure it for yourself with a patch then they need to be made to pay attention and do their job. The stories of my dealings with helpdesks are written up elsewhere, probably my opinion of them too, so FWIW I'm sorry this is turning out to be such a pain for you. Wish I could help more but probably a gj I can't call them for you cuz I've a feeling that if I had to speak to a helpdesk right now they'd boot me for offensive remarks:p.
I just had another thought but maybe you could check the copy protection used (securom or tages? Maybe someone else here knows which gold edition uses?) and see if you can update it via the relevant website. SF2, for example, needed a CP update for some using Vista. I didn't need to do anything about my original OoD and BoW CP when I installed them on a Vista machine but then I have no idea what updates have been included with other, more recently developed software I've installed or whether it just wasn't necessary. Even if you aren't running Vista it might still be an idea to check the relevant site. Probably a long shot but since nothing else is working so far.
Right so I've heard from JoWood now: 'Dear Customer, please remove AnyDVD, Deamon tools and apllications like that restart the Computer and reinstallt he game.' This is bollocks in my books.
When the applications aren't running there is no way they can interfere with anything. I remember playing Spellforce: Breath of Winter on my computer without problems AND having applications like that installed. Is there any chance that it might not be possible to run Spellforce Gold on a laptop? Because I can't remember whether I played it on my laptop or on my desktop computer.

Can you get Breath of Winter alone or do you have to buy the Gold Edition to get hold of it? Some have had problems with hook errors or whatever caused by 3rd party programs but when playing the game afaik, or with that specific hook message. I can't recall anyone experiencing your problem under the same circumstances but then my memory isn't infallible, far from it. I'd guess that such software could interfere in this way, say, if it was something to do with the copy protection, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to have that be anything other than a guess. I never had any such problems myself, even with the DVD burning tools that came with my old pc and Nero installed, but that's no guarantee similar software doesn't cause problems. The only way you won't get a program to run on a laptop is if it doesn't meet the min/rec requirements so if it does there shouldn't be a problem. BoW was certainly sold seperately when released but you may have to search extensively to get such a copy nowadays, what with Gold, Platinum and now Universe all superceding it on store shelves.

Then again you may luck out straight away. Have you installed much of software that they suggest might be the problem? I'd not be happy about uninstalling it either, in fact I'd not have anywhere close to your patience to get this far, but you've tried everything else so it could be worth one more effort.
